Custom Signs
Custom Signs in Black Mountain
A sign is often the first thing a customer sees before they ever walk through a door, open a website, or make a phone call. It tells people where you are, what you do, and whether you are open. For a business, a clear and well-made sign is not decoration—it is part of how you communicate with the people you are trying to reach.
Precision Graphics has been serving businesses and organizations in Black Mountain and Western North Carolina since 1998 . Our customers have trusted us with signs for their businesses, and they have been pleased with the results . We produce a range of printed signage—from banners and yard signs to window graphics and rigid printed displays—and we help you choose the right type of sign for where it will go and how long it needs to last.
What We Mean by “Custom Signs”
The word “sign” covers a wide range of products. At Precision Graphics, our sign capabilities focus on printed signage: signs that are produced by printing a design onto a material, rather than signs that are fabricated from metal, illuminated, or structurally engineered.
This distinction matters because it helps you know whether we are the right shop for your project.
What we produce:
-
Banners — vinyl and mesh banners for events, promotions, and storefront displays
-
Yard signs — corrugated plastic signs on stakes for real estate, business promotion, and events
-
Window graphics and decals — printed vinyl applied to glass surfaces
-
Posters — large printed sheets for indoor display
-
Rigid printed signs — designs printed onto flat materials such as foam board or corrugated plastic for temporary or indoor use
What we do not typically produce:
-
Illuminated signs (channel letters, light boxes)
-
Monument signs and pylon signs
-
Structural exterior building signs that require fabrication and engineering
-
Signs that require electrical work or permitting as a structural installation
If your project falls into the second category, we can tell you honestly that it is outside our scope. Dedicated sign fabricators in the area handle those types of projects . But if you need a printed sign—something that carries your message clearly and can be produced efficiently—we can help.
Choosing the Right Sign for Your Situation
The right sign depends on where it will be placed, how far away people will be when they see it, and how long it needs to stay up.
Temporary outdoor promotion (weeks to months)
A vinyl banner or a corrugated plastic yard sign is the practical choice. Banners hang from fences, buildings, or frames and carry large messages. Yard signs push into the ground and are readable from the road. Both are designed for short-to-mid-term use and can be produced quickly.
Storefront and window messaging
Window graphics and decals turn glass into communication space. A logo on a door, hours on a window, or a promotional graphic that covers part of a storefront—these are printed on vinyl and applied directly to the glass. They are visible to anyone walking or driving past.
Indoor displays and presentations
Posters and rigid printed signs work for interior spaces where the sign needs to be read up close or from across a room. Foam board and similar materials are lightweight and can be mounted or displayed on easels.
Event and directional signage
Banners, yard signs, and rigid printed signs can all serve directional or informational purposes at events. The choice depends on whether the sign needs to stand on its own, hang, or be held.
If you are unsure which type of sign fits your situation, tell us where it will go and what it needs to do. We can help you narrow down the options.
How the Sign Production Process Works
You do not need to have every detail decided before you contact us. Here is what the process generally involves.
1. You tell us about the sign and its purpose. What is the sign for? Where will it be placed—outdoors, indoors, on a window, in the ground? How long does it need to last? How large does it need to be? Share any design files or describe what you want the sign to say.
2. We discuss the sign type and material. Based on your answers, we will recommend a sign type that fits the location and duration. A banner and a yard sign serve different purposes even though both are printed. We will help you choose the right one.
3. Your artwork is prepared. Vector files (such as .AI, .EPS, or .PDF) work best for signs because they scale cleanly. If you have a print-ready file, we will check that it meets the specifications for the sign type and size you have chosen. If not, we can discuss what adjustments are needed.
4. You approve a proof. Before we print, you will see a proof showing how the sign will look. This is your chance to check the layout, the text size, and the overall readability.
5. We produce and prepare your order. Once approved, we produce the sign and have it ready for pickup at our shop in Black Mountain.
What Affects Cost and Timeline
Sign pricing depends on several factors. We do not publish fixed prices because every project is different, but these are the considerations that matter:
-
Sign type — A banner and a rigid sign use different materials and production processes.
-
Size — Larger signs use more material and take more production time.
-
Material — Standard vinyl or corrugated plastic costs less than specialty materials.
-
Finishing — Grommets, pole pockets, hemming, or mounting add time and cost.
-
Artwork readiness — A print-ready file moves through production faster than one that needs adjustment.
-
Deadline — If you need a sign by a specific date, let us know early.
When you request a quote, we will give you a clear breakdown based on your specific project and timeline.
What to Bring When You Request a Quote
Having a few details ready helps us give you an accurate quote and a realistic timeline.
-
The sign’s purpose and where it will be placed
-
The approximate size or the dimensions of the space
-
Your design file (PDF, AI, EPS, or a high-resolution image) if you have one
-
How long the sign needs to last (temporary event, seasonal, longer-term)
-
Indoor or outdoor use
-
Your deadline or event date
If you are unsure about sign type, material, or design, that is fine. We can help you work through the options.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of signs do you produce?
We produce printed signage: banners, yard signs, window graphics, posters, and rigid printed signs. We do not fabricate illuminated signs, monument signs, or structural exterior building signs. If you are unsure whether your project fits, contact us and we can tell you.
Can you install the sign for me?
Installation arrangements depend on the sign type and the project. Ask when you request a quote whether installation is available or whether the sign is provided for customer installation.
What file format should I send for sign printing?
A print-ready PDF is ideal. AI and EPS files also work well. If you only have a JPEG or PNG, the image may need to be high resolution enough for the intended sign size. Tell us the size and viewing distance and we can advise.
How long do outdoor signs last?
It depends on the material and the conditions. Vinyl banners and corrugated plastic yard signs are designed for temporary to mid-term outdoor use. Tell us how long you need the sign to stay up and we can recommend a material that suits the duration.
Can you match my brand colors?
We print using standard color processes, and we can match your brand colors as closely as the printing method allows. For projects where color accuracy is critical, ask about a proof before full production.
How long does sign production take?
Turnaround time depends on the sign type, size, material, and our current schedule. When you request a quote, we can give you a realistic timeline based on your project and deadline.
